National Assembly (NA) speaker Alen Simonyan admits that there is no guarantee that Azerbaijan will leave the occupied territories of Armenia even after the latter hands over lands from Tavush Province.

"I can't talk about such guarantees, but I can say that we should carry out this process in a mirror logic," said Simonyan speaking with reporters at the NA Wednesday.

"The point from which the border should be delineated, in our opinion, is right to start from Tavush because the disputed parts are somewhat much less there than in terms of the rest. I think, thanks to this process, we will have a complete outline of the border," he added.

Commenting on the fact that Azerbaijan threatens with war if Armenia does not hand over four villages in Tavush Province, Simonyan said: "I do not rule out that they will attack. And why should they not attack? I believe they have said it openly. Of course, we are ready. And it's not like as if we proceed from that logic that our oppositionists say ‘they [i.e. the Armenian authorities] are giving everything [to Azerbaijan].’ No. Let's make it clear that we are not even negotiating anything from the territory of Armenia.

There has been talk about the corridor [for Azerbaijan via Armenia] for two years now. So why didn't we compromise on that issue? Because it is obvious that it is within the zone our jurisdiction. But the fact that mapping must start from somewhere and be done in some way is obvious."

The parliament speaker assured that starting the border delimitation process from Tavush is acceptable for Armenia also.

"Many, many places in that area are clear for us as well. And by and large, there is no big dispute there; there is a dispute in the remaining parts," said Alen Simonyan.
