According to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, now is the time to include the agreements reached with Azerbaijan in the peace treaty and sign it. Pashinyan announced this while speaking at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit 2024 and attending the discussion entitled "From the frontline: Armenia’s defence of democracy."

In his speech, the premier emphasized that despite all the challenges, Armenia believes that the real and most desirable companion of democracy is lasting and sustainable peace.

The Armenian government took its share of responsibility for this. Armenia recently reached an agreement with Azerbaijan to begin delimiting their interstate borders based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. This means that during the delimitation, we simply have to reproduce the administrative borders between Soviet Armenia and Soviet Azerbaijan, which according to the Alma-Ata Declaration, become national borders. The start of the border delimitation process is the implementation of the agreement reached during the quadrilateral meeting on October 6, 2022 between the President of France Emmanuel Macron, the President of the European Council Charles Michel, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, and myself. It happened in Prague, the Armenian PM reminded, adding that now is the time to include and reflect these agreements in the peace treaty and sign it.

Referring to the Crossroads of Peace project by the Armenian government, Pashinyan noted that another focal point for regional stability is this project, assumes that Armenia and Azerbaijan restore and open transport and other communications under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries through which they pass, and in accordance with the principles of equality and reciprocity.

Pashinyan said that these elements of the concept were agreed upon on July 15, 2023 during the meeting between the President of Azerbaijan and himself, facilitated by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and reflected in the subsequent public statement made by Michel.

Armenia is ready to move toward implementing the agreements reached, democracy is a strategy for Armenia, we believe in democracy, and we live in democracy, concluded Nikol Pashinyan.
