David Cameron, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom (UK), announced during his visit to Israel that the Jewish state has decided to retaliate for Iran for the latter’s weekend air attack, Reuters reports.

At the beginning of his visit to Jerusalem, the UK foreign minister said that Israel is obviously taking a decision to act.

Cameron added that he hoped Israel would "do so in a way that does as little to escalate this as possible."

Now Washington and Western governments hope that their new economic sanctions on Iran will help persuade Israel to limit the scope of its retaliation against the Islamic republic.

The UK wants to see coordinated sanctions against Iran by the G7 countries when their foreign ministers meet in Italy this week, Cameron said.

"They need to be given a clear unequivocal message by the G7," he said.
