When the time came to protect us, Russia did not protect. We then again expressed hope that they would protect us, then they deceived us again, and in the end they tried to drag us into a new war already in the territory of Armenia, in order to come and "save" Armenia. National Assembly speaker Alen Simonyan stated this on the air of the Public Television Company of Armenia.

"No one is doing anything against Russia or anyone. Everything is so simple that a kindergarten child can explain [it]. We had a friend, an ally who was supposed to protect us. And ‘elder brother,’ as they [i.e. Russia] like to say, who, when the time came to protect us, did not protect us. He left us all alone, and left [us] all alone at the least, if not it happened with its knowledge.

We then again expressed hope that it would protect us, thinking that maybe it just happened. Then they again deceived us, deceived us, deceived us, and in the end tried to drag us into a new war already in the territory of Armenia, in order to come and save’ Armenia. Yes, I declare that Russia, our ally, left us all alone at the most critical moment—and that is a fact," said Simonyan.

Also, the speaker of the National Assembly announced that Armenia has frozen its participation in the CSTO.

"Armenia has frozen its participation in the CSTO until we understand whether this organization exists or not at all, is it functioning, is it coming out of our region, is it going to at least call Azerbaijan and say that the [Azerbaijani] troops near Jermuk [city of Armenia] it's a CSTO area; there is no need to come, look for that," said Simonyan.
